Transitional Pathway Policy

Transitional Pathway Policy – Junior to Senior rugby.

The reason for this paper being produced was to agree a club policy in regard to managing the movement of Junior girls into Senior rugby.

As the WRU regulations currently states:
Girls allowed to play for senior women’s team once reached age 18, or if, aged 17 plus approved by the WRU (Womens) Performance manager.

The purpose of allowing the girls to play up is primarily to assist with an individual player’s long term development. As a club we hope to recognise those needs, and through anaging this exposure to senior rugby, we hope that the individual players, and the Senior women’s section will benefit.

To accommodate this, the following has been agreed as club policy:

• All players Under Age 18 as at 1st Sept each season are registered as Junior players with the WRU as members of the Cardiff Quins U18 side.

• All requests for Junior players to play in a Senior rugby fixture needs to be directed through / and agreed by the Junior Head Coach.

• U18 fixtures will usually take precedence, although in exceptional circumstances, player release may be allowed. The over riding factor in all decisions will be player development.

• The Junior and Senior Head Coaches will meet periodically to feedback/share information on any players who are eligible to play Senior Rugby, and how best to accommodate these players and support their development.
